A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:


1. Hu Jieming: Lights of Time

Hu Jieming: Lights of Time

Running in parallel with the Shanghai Biennale, this solo exhibition from the pioneering multimedia artist mixes video installations exploring light and shadow with enclosed white cubes and other works inspired by the city’s history.
Nov 11-Mar 30. Aurora Museum.


2. ART021

Nov 12-13: ART021

Named after Shanghai’s area code, this massive contemporary art fair features a who’s who of international galleries. Highlights include Kaw’s memorable Companion (pictured) but there will be plenty of other stellar exhibitions and events for art lovers to enjoy. The festival is part of the Shanghai International Arts Festival.

3. Ni Jun: The Deep Blue Sea

Ni Jun: The Deep Blue Sea

Shanghai Gallery of Art welcomes the acclaimed Tianjin artist who presents his latest solo exhibition that pays tribute to the force and geopolitical impact of the sea. In The Deep Blue Sea, he mixes original research with objects from sites to create works across a variety of media including video, paintings and installations.

4. Slippages

Slippages

Pearl Lam hosts this groups exhibition featuring works “slippery in meaning” that address the relationship between interpretation and perception. Participants include Gao Weigang, Sakarin Krue-On, Li Jingxiong, MAP Office (see above), Nabuqi, Sun Yuan and Peng Yu (see cover image), Xie Nanxing and Zhou Yangming.

5. Shanghai Biennale

Nov 12-Mar 12: Shanghai Biennale

Power Station of Art hosts the 11th edition of this massive contemporary art fair that will emphasize “the possibilities of South-South dialogue within the current scenario of a highly connected world.” The acclaimed Dehli-based Raqs Media Collective (pictured above) curates presenting a destination for many different kinds of exploration and investigation that will also serve as a launching pad for new visions, ideas and artists. 6. West Bund Art + Design Fair 2016

Nov 9-13: West Bund Art + Design Fair 2016

The budding cultural corridor of the West Bund celebrates the third edition of this international art fair, welcoming 31 leading contemporary galleries from around the world. Highlights include the first large scale exhibition from pop art master Alexander Katz (pictured) and the opening of ShanghART’s West Bund gallery.
Until Nov 13, noon-6pm (Fri), 10am-6pm (Sat-Sun), RMB60-80. West Bund Art & Design Center.
